Les 2 Alpes Resort Review
GUEST POST FROM ALEX ARMAND
Our Les Deux Alpes resort review has been written by our contact in resort, Alex Armand. Alex has been working in Les Deux Alpes as a ski instructor for over 14 years, and 3 years as TipTop Ski Coaching. Her love of skiing, snowboarding and the mountains first brought her to the Alps and it didn’t take long to decide this would make a fantastic home!
Alex now lives in Le Bourg Doisans with her husband, Seb and Dog Izzy. Seb is a Ski Patroller and Izzy loves to join them on ski tours and mountain bikes so they are an active family that love to make the most of the mountains!
LES DEUX ALPES, a snow sure ski resort in the French Alps
The Ski Slopes
Les Deux Alpes has a fantastic variety of slopes with something for everyone.
The Beginner slopes are all along the “hanging valley” of the resort so easily accessible from all sectors of the village. My personal favourite for teaching on is the Viking and Grand Viking at the Venosc end of town.
Form the village the first stop up the mountain is Le Crete. This is another great area for teaching and finding your ski legs. With a magic carpet for beginners and an 8 seater chair lift accessing blue and green runs. Between the village and Le Crete is “The front face”. Les Deux Alpes is an upside down resort so has both the great beginner areas and some great off piste and steeper
Blacks down this front face.
From Le Crete you move on up to 2600m which allows access to La Toura, our world famous snow park and general playground with boarder cross and beginner jumps and rails as well as the real deal big air and slope style.
2600M also allows access into the La Fee area. This area is fantastic with blues (dark blues) and reds and blacks. There is also a huge amount of off piste in this area. Don’t forget to take an experienced instructor or guide that knows the terrain and snow conditions.
And finally we move on up towards the base of the glacier 3200m. This is accessed via the Jandri Express at 2600M or the brand new Pierre Grosse Telecabine leaving the valley of la Fee and arriving at 3200M.
The glacier itself goes up to 3600M and allows skiing even during the summer months! Some of the nicest runs are up here, for example Signal 1 a wide blue that descends to the skiers right of the glacier - a run not to be missed!
Last but not least we have the other side of the mountain, The Valley Blanche. This area is generally quieter and is a great place to go for more experienced skiers. It also gets the sun first thing in the morning which is always a bonus!
The great thing about Les Deux Alpes is that a first time skier will be able to enjoy blue runs from 3600M right down to village level of 1650M by the end of their first week. Whilst their powder hound friends can take an experience instructor or guide and enjoy endless off piste and lift accessed powder! Don’t forget to get an experienced Instructor for both parties, Alex Armand of TipTop Ski Coaching would be a fantastic choice and can arrange other instructors for the party as well to ensure everyone is in safe hands and having the time of their life!
There is plenty of Apres Ski for everyone here in Les Deux Alpes from an afternoon party at 2600M each day to live music in a wooded chalet style pub.
The Polar Bear in the village offer the traditional wooden chalet and live music whilst Pano bar on the mountain offers the party from 3pm for those that enjoy some real hard core apres!
If a happy medium is required the Umbrella bar is on the slopes in the village and runs from 4pm till 7pm each day. This is excellent if you have children as they can enjoy some sledging or playing in the snow just by the side of the bar whilst you enjoy your well deserved pint!
There is a huge variety of accommodation here in Les Deux Alpes from 4* hotels to apartments.
Some of my personal favourites are Chalet Mounier which is a wonderful chalet style 4* hotel with a Michelin stared restaurant. Everything about this hotel is special!
There are also some fantastic chalets available in the resort, of which my favourites are run by Chalet 2 Alpes. The chalets are beautiful traditional mountain chalets and the hosts are fantastic. You can book these catered or self catered and if you want the best of both worlds they will tailor the catering to your needs, once or twice a week or a drop off of ready (home cooked) meals. A perfect solution for making the most of your family and friends in a wonderful cosy atmosphere.
If you are looking for apartments then I’d certainly start with looking at 2 Alpes Apartments selection of fantastically located and well maintained apartments.
